The Cult was kicking off their new tour with a show in Los Angeles on the day their new album Hidden City was getting released. Following their big show at the Hollywood Palladium just a few months before, the beautiful but worn out Tower theatre definitely offered an intimate and ghostly setting.
The band delivered a tight, muscular set including favorites such as “She Sells Sanctuary”, “Fire Woman”, “Love Removal Machine” as well as a few cuts from Hidden City. Unlike their Primal Fear show, there wasn’t any special guests – they had brought it Alice in Chains’ Jerry Cantrell and The Sex Pistols’ Steve Jones – but it didn’t matter as the sold-out crowd was composed of hardcore cult believers. Last but not least, having seen the band at various venues from the House of Blues to the Palladium and Wiltern, I must admit that the intriguing Tower Theatre contributed to make it my most memorable Cult experience, even though the acoustic wasn’t perfect.
