The Jesus and Mary Chain at the Wiltern

The Jesus and Mary Chains
Venue: the Wiltern – City: Los Angeles – Date: May 19th, 2017

Celebrating the release of their excellent comeback album Damage And Joy, The Jesus and Mary Chain were eager to show they haven’t lost the raw energy that made their reputation. Opening with their new single “Amputation”, they then followed with two of their most emblematic songs, “April Skies” and “Head On” (which The Pixies covered in Trompe Le Monde).

Hiding behind low lights and smoke, the Reid brothers delivered a tight set including favorites such as the epic “Reverence”, “Blues From a Gun”, “Just Like Honey”, “You Trip Me Up” with new cuts such as “All Things Pass” and “War on Peace” sounding like classics among older tunes.

Having seen The Jesus and Mary Chains quite a few times – they are my favorite band along Depeche Mode – I’m happy to report that, despite a long hiatus, they feel re-energized and can still deliver fiery performances, easily outshining their Munki era.
