The Pixies at the Ace Hotel
Following a big show at the Hollywood Bowl 3 years ago, The Pixies were back in town for two nights at the more intimate and gorgeous Ace Hotel theatre and from the moment they took the stage, it was clear Black Francis and his gang were still a force to be reckoned with.
Opening with “Gouge Away” followed by the Jesus & Mary Chain cover “Head On”, they delivered a relentless 2-hour set featuring classics and new cuts from their latest two albums. Alternating between ferocious moments and pop melodies, their signature formula which Nirvana “recycled”, they delivered a powerful and precise performance with a filler-free flawless set list. While favorites such as “Monkey Gone To Heaven”, “Here Comes Your Man”, “Velouria” and “Debaser” were certainly highlights, new songs such as “Um Chagga Lagga” easily blended in.
As for Kim Deal fans, they can be reassured, Paz Lenchantin’s bass and vocals staying true to the original.
